Introduction
My name is Christopher Wieser and I am a regular 16 year old who loves art and music and has a passion for photography. From Nikon to iPhone to Leica to Sony, I have been making an effort to experiment with cameras and lenses everywhere. I have been photographing for nearly 6 years and have grown as an artist during my photographic journey.
Nikon – Where it all began…
Ever since I was a little kid I always had an interest in photography. My dad gave me my first camera when I was 11, a few weeks before our Europe family vacation. I was thrilled shooting with a Nikon D40 and took many pictures with it.
iPhone – The artist inside began to grow…
A few years later, I switched to an iPhone. I really liked the convenience of being able to shoot and post process all on a portable device. I was surprised the kind of artistic images I was able to create.
Leica – Where it really took off!
As I grew more serious, my dad surprised me with a Leica X1 last year. This was a real step up, and I frantically began learning how to post-process in Lightroom! I have discovered so much about Lightroom and came across Serge Ramelli who’s tutorials have been absolutely phenomenal and I would recommend 100% for any learning photographer. I have been inspired by several other great photographers as well along the way. The Leica X1 really is a fantastic camera but the one limitation for me was not being able to switch out lenses. After looking all over the internet at great photographers and images, I have discovered that there are so many amazing vintage lenses out there that I just can’t resist the urge to capture photographs with them.
Sony – A new beginning…
With the graciousness of my dad, I have been able to get my hands on a Sony A7r mirrorless and use a few of his vintage lenses. There is a lot to like about this camera but for me, the ability to put on an adapter and shoot with 50 year old lenses is just incredible. When you do that of course, focusing is all manual – but it’s not at all difficult with focus peaking and focus magnification plus it’s so accurate! Sure it’s a little slower but I find taking my time and focusing manually adds to my artistic process.
Instagram – Sharing my moments…
This year I joined Instagram and that is where I’m now sharing my photos online for everyone to see and enjoy! I have been going through older photographs from my days with the Nikon D40 and the iPhone to post-process them and bring over to Instagram+. I am posting mostly right now my Leica images and have been getting out more frequently with my Sony A7r and taking more pictures.
Blogging – Bringing it all together…
During the first couple months of 2014, I was in the process of launching my first blog Drawinginlight.com. I actually came up with the name for it while sitting in class after completing my World History Final Exam. My goal right now is to get out as much as I can with my Sony and post my photos online for everyone to enjoy.
